Acclaimed rock guitarist Robin Trower has canceled his U.S. tour dates, including two concerts in Upstate New York, due to health issues.
“It is with great regret that I must inform you that I will be unable to fulfill the upcoming tour of the USA in September/October,” Trower announced in a statement. “I have struggled with health issues for some time now. Following my latest hospital stay a few weeks ago, my doctor advised that a major operation is the only effective long-term solution and must be undertaken as soon as possible.”
Trower, 79, was set to perform over a dozen shows this fall, including an October 1 stop at Babeville in Buffalo and an October 2 performance at the State Theatre of Ithaca. Promoter Dan Smalls Presents stated that all tickets will be refunded automatically.
The guitarist mentioned that his recovery from the surgery “could take a while,” making it uncertain when he will be able to return to the stage.
“I have struggled with this decision but realize I cannot continue touring at this time,” Trower said. “I know that you will be as disappointed as I am, but I am very hopeful that this procedure will give me a new lease on life and I can return to doing what I love the most—playing live ASAP. I look forward to catching up with you all as soon as I am able.”
Robin Trower, an English musician, first gained fame with Procol Harum, best known for their 1967 hit “A Whiter Shade of Pale.” He later led the Robin Trower Band, which achieved four gold albums in the 1970s. This year marked the 50th anniversary of 1974’s “Bridge of Sighs,” which was recently reissued with outtakes, live performances, and other rarities.
A prolific artist, Trower continues to release new music, including last year’s “Joyful Sky” and seven other albums over the past decade. He is considered an influential guitarist, blending blues with classic rock and hard rock elements.
