Georgia authorities have identified the cause of loss of a lady who lost her son and brother to gun violence.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office deemed Chanell Crosby, 35, a murder after a gunshot wound to the head.
Her corpse was decomposed, according to the medical examiner’s report, which PEOPLE acquired.
The Atlanta Police Department said after Crosby’s loss that her family reported her missing on July 14.
Authorities say she disappeared after leaving for Macon, Ga., with her boyfriend, WSB TV reported.
The Atlanta PD said they discovered her “not alert, conscious, or breathing” on July 19 after receiving a complaint. She was declared passed on site.
Crosby was seeking for answers in the shooting of her son, 13-year-old Jamiren Crosby, who was shot minutes from his Lithonia, Ga. home, 11 Alive News said.
Chanell’s relatives informed 11 Alive that Chanell’s brother was shot and killed in an Atlanta apartment complex in April after winning $4,000 in a slot machine.
After the killings, Chanell formed a family foundation “focuse[d] on gun violence, police brutality and community service,” she told WSB-TV in June 2023.
The charity painted shelters and donated to children’s and women’s shelters, she informed the site.
No one had been arrested for Jamiren’s murder when Chanell passed away. The Atlanta PD website does not provide any updates on Chanell’s loss inquiry as of this report.
A GoFundMe has been created to help Chanell’s family with burial costs and resources for her three children.
