We become accustomed to seeing different colored lights in traffic. For example, if we see a red light that is flashing, we know that we should pull over and leave the emergency vehicle go by. On the other hand, if we see a blue light flashing behind us, we tend to panic because we know it is the police.
There is also a green light that can be put on automobiles and it is there for a very specific purpose in many parts of the world. If you don’t know what these green lights mean, it’s important for you to have a broad understanding.
For the most part, volunteers and private ambulances that are taking part in medical issues or to transport medical devices and supplies will use these green lights. It isn’t exactly a light that is put on an emergency vehicle, but it does help the driver to have additional attention so that he can transport safely.
In many cases, those who are under the care of somebody who may be using a green light or if a transport is using the green light, it is not a life-threatening situation. That being said, it would still be a courtesy to move out of the way.
There is a benefit to using these green lights and that’s the fact that it helps the vehicle to get through traffic more easily. If there is someone in the vehicle who needs nonemergency medical care, then it is important that they get to their medical appointment or for their treatment on time.
In other words, if you see a green light on a vehicle in traffic, just keep in mind that somebody in the vehicle may need you to move out of the way. It may not be life-threatening, but it is something that is necessary for them.
You should also recognize that using green lights in vehicles is regulated on a state-by-state basis. The vehicle has to be registered with a medical transportation authority to use a light. The driver also has to meet certain criteria.
If you do see a car with green lights, just remember that it isn’t a random choice or somebody’s favorite color. It means that the vehicle was part of a medical service and somebody may need to get to a medical appointment.
